Very different from our daytime Tai Chi classes, this evening class is held in a dedicated wellbeing studio: Decorated in an Eastern 'Zen' vibe; paper Japanese lanterns and Buddha statues, the scene is set to unwind your mind from the moment you walk in. Leave your shoes and your troubles at the door.
The exercises we do here are called Qigong ("Chee - Gong")
Qigong could be described as a half-way house between complicated Tai Chi routines and basic Yoga-type flows, moving between a stretch and a relaxation, aided by the breath and mindful visualisations. Tuning into the body, becoming aware of our tensions and stresses, we learn to let go. Gradually installing a new habit of relaxation and calm.
Qigong is a very ancient health promoting exercise system originating in China about 5000 years ago. A series of standing postures and mindful movements to boost the internal energy flow and promote wellness of body mind and spirit
Most of the class is performed standing up, but we have a short period of relaxing meditation at the end where you can stand, sit or lie down whilst our teacher guides you through a soothing or empowering visualisation. Then it's time to float home in a state of bliss!
We are already taking bookings for September! If the class is heavily oversubscribed, we will run a second class from 8.30 to 9.30pm

Shieling House, Invincible Rd GU14 7QU
Yes, it's right in the middle of an industrial estate, but at 7.30pm all the businesses have closed for the day and the area is quiet and deserted.
The word Shieling is an ancient Gaelic word - It was a hut built as a shelter, by shepherds when they took their stock to the higher summer pastures. Sometimes regarded as a rite of passage, the inhabitants, living a solitary life would often discover truths about themselves as they lived in nature and reconnected to the land.
I hope that Shieling house will offer new beginnings and discoveries or a place of quiet retreat for all of our members too.
It is a condition not to attend any class if you have any sort of respiratory illness, such as a cold, as we want to keep ALL illness out of our classes,
